How much energy does it take to produce a gallon of gasoline compared to producing a gallon of ethanol?

when corn is used for ethanol, all the value is not lost in the process, a by product is left over that can be fed to livestock. so really corn used for ethanol is not taken out of the corn supply. if people would do a little research,they would find out most negative reports about [...]

What does ethanol and its blends have over bio-diesel?

This is what I know: Ethanol and Bio-diesel (bio-fuels) are both generaly made from corn but most plant matter can be used. Also both pollute similairly to non bio-fuels. The main differences deal with production and the powerplant.
Ethanol is currently requires more energy to produce than it releases in combustion. It also is less efficent [...]

Should governments mandate biofuels?

In his 2007 State of the Union Address, President bush called for a several-fold expansion of the Renewable Fuel Standard,

When will people wake up to the fact that Biodiesel is not a viable replacement for Oil?

There are two key problems.
Firstly the change in use of arable land to biodiesel agriculture is creating an unholy competition between food for people, and "food" for cars, which has resulted in huge hikes in the price of food crops such as wheat, causing increasing starvation and poverty globally.
Secondly even if ALL global land use [...]

Global Pulse: Biofuel – Another Flawed Policy?

See linktv.org (November 1, 2007) President Bush promised to expand American biofuel production, but the result has been worse than nothing. Corn is a poor source for energy, but growing it and other staples as fuel has caused food prices worldwide to explode – even as the scarcity of flex-fuel vehicles means no significant increase [...]

How difficult would it be to create a conversion kit for car engines?

using alternative/renewable fuel sources?
I asked this question a few years ago when I first experimented with biodiesel and there are conversion kits for diesel engines but what about regular engines. It seems like it should be do-able since most gasoline contains a certain percentage of ethanol (as one example)
Has anyone considered this?
