[Alcohol-based] Glycerin can be used to… ?

In biodiesel production, glycerin is a by-product… I know it is used in the cosmetics industry, but as this is formed in the presence of methanol (an alcohol) would that be a problem?

Is there some sort of a standard to the glycerin that is currently used for cosmetics?

Yes, Glycerin is used in the cosmetics industry for a multitude of purposes. It being mixed with methanol doesn’t pose a problem, however, the clarity and purity does. Most biodesiel plants have another entire section where they clarify the glycerin to resell. Yes, there is a standard on glycerin, it needs to be in pure form, which isn’t too hard to achieve, but will take extra care and time.
